The Golden Hour
Two 12 x 36 acrylic on wood panel works.
Goldfinches visiting a dogwood tree. Dogwoods are an important species too many birds, insects and small mammals. Goldfinches and dogwood trees have a mutualistic relationship in which the tree provides shelter, nesting sites and food for the goldfinch, while goldfinches help spread the seeds and pollen of dogwood trees.
There’s something so magical about seeing a group of goldfinches move into an area. Their plumage it’s so glorious and bright; it stands out amongst nature’s other more subtle hues. I used to wait for them to come while drinking my coffee. They came in lively groups just after sunrise, gathering in trees and shrubs, visiting our feeders and climbing our towering verbena to reach the seeds.
