A great horned owl with her massive feet outstretched coming in for a landing of perhaps coming in for the kill. Great horned owls help to keep small to medium sized vertebrate populations in balance. This not only helps increase out crop yields, it helps to maintain equilibrium in the greater ecosystem.
Great horned owls have the largest eyes of any terrestrial vertebrate. They have keen eyesight, excellent hearing, specialized soft feathers that allow them to fly without sound and powerful feet that require a force of 28 pounds to open. They are often referred to as flying tigers due to their hunting prowess.
Using pesticides for rodent and insect control causes sickness and a painful death for the great horned owl. Please find alternatives to poisons for pest control and give these marvelous and beneficial predators the respect they deserve.
